Educational Qualification
Candidates must possess a University Degree. However, this condition may be relaxed for those having a minimum of 3 years’ experience in stenography. Preference will be given to candidates with a Law Degree.
Applicants must have passed an English Shorthand Examination with a speed of 80 words per minute (w.p.m.) or above, and an English Typing Examination with a speed of 40 w.p.m. or above. A valid certificate in computer operation or GCC-TBC qualification is also mandatory as per the Maharashtra State Council of Examination (MSCE) norms.

Age Limit
For General (Open) category candidates, the age limit is between 21 to 38 years, while for SC/ST/OBC/SBC candidates, the age limit is 21 to 43 years. Government or High Court employees applying through proper channel have no upper age limit. Age will be calculated as per the date of advertisement publication.
Salary Details
Selected candidates for the post of Stenographer (Lower Grade) will receive a salary in the Pay Matrix S-18, ranging from ₹49,100 to 1,55,800, along with other allowances admissible as per the Maharashtra Government rules.

Application Process
The application process is completely online. Candidates must visit the official website of the Bombay High Court at bombayhighcourt.nic.in, click on the “Recruitment” section, and then select the “Stenographer (Lower Grade)” recruitment link.
The online application form will be available from 27th October 2025 (11:00 AM) to 10th November 2025 (5:00 PM). Applicants must fill the form carefully with correct details, upload scanned copies of their photograph and signature (each not exceeding 40 KB), and complete the fee payment process before submission.

Application Fee
Applicants are required to pay a non-refundable examination fee of ₹500 through SBI Collect, the official online payment gateway. No other mode of payment will be accepted, and the application will be considered valid only after successful fee payment.
Selection Process
Candidates will be selected based on merit, which will be determined through three stages – Shorthand Test (40 marks), Typing Test (40 marks), and Viva-voce (20 marks). Candidates must score at least 20 marks in each of the first two tests and 8 marks in Viva-voce to qualify.
The final merit list will be prepared based on total marks obtained. All test schedules, admit cards, and results will be published on the official website of the Bombay High Court.
